Supreme court decision on neet UG results 2021.
The Supreme Court on Thursday stayed the Bombay High Court’s order to re-conduct the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for two candidates. After this order of the top court, the way has been cleared for the declaration of the results of NEET, in which more than 16 lakh students took part.
National Testing Agency was not happy with the High Court’s decision
The National Testing Agency (NTA) had moved the Supreme Court alleging that the results were being delayed due to the High Court order. A bench headed by Justice L Nageswara Rao said, “We cannot withhold the results of 16 lakh students.” The bench told the petitioner’s counsel, “We will decide what will happen to both the students when they reopen (after Diwali vacation). In the meantime, we issue notices and file a counter.”
‘No worries about students’
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, has said that whatever confusion there is, it will be corrected. “You are talking about your clients but not considering the lakhs of students who are waiting for the results,” the bench told the counsel for the petitioner.
Delay in results of more than 16 lakh students
In its petition, the NTA had challenged the Bombay High Court’s order to conduct NEET again for two Solapur candidates, who alleged that their test booklet and OMR sheet were mixed up at the examination center before the commencement of the examination. The NTA had argued in the apex court that there was delay in declaring the results of over 16 lakh students due to the High Court order.
The High Court had directed the NTA to conduct fresh examinations of the two petitioners for the academic year 2021-2022 and declare the results within weeks.
