Amidst the detection of a new form of Coronavirus in South Africa and the worldwide apprehensions about it, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed the need to be ‘proactive’ in view of this.
PM Modi said that people need to be more alert and follow all other preventive measures including wearing masks and keeping proper distance.
International flights will be monitored.
The Prime Minister held an important meeting with top officials to review the latest situation of Kovid-19 in the country and the ongoing vaccination drive. During this meeting, which lasted for about two hours, the officials apprised the Prime Minister about the concerns arising out of the discovery of the new form of corana virus ‘Omicron’ and its effects in all countries.
A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said that the Prime Minister expressed the need to be proactive and follow preventive measures as well as monitor all international flights.
Approval for international flights will be reviewed
According to the PMO, the Prime Minister told the officials that along with monitoring all international flights, people coming from ‘risk’ countries should be screened as per the guidelines. The Prime Minister also asked the officials to review the plan to lift the ban on international flights in view of the dangers of the new Covid-19 variant.
In this meeting held through digital medium, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister PK Mishra, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, NITI Aayog Member (Health) VK Paul, NITI Aayog’s AK Bhalla and Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India. Of. Some other officials including Vijay Raghavan were present.
Corona situation in the country
With the arrival of 8,318 new cases of covid-19 in India in a day, the total number of infection cases increased to 3,45,63,749 while the number of patients undergoing treatment came down to 1,07,019, which is the lowest in 541 days.
According to the data of the Union Health Ministry, the death toll has increased to 4,67,933 due to the loss of 465 patients. The daily cases of corona virus are less than 20,000 for 50 consecutive days and less than 50,000 for the 153th consecutive day. A total of 120.96 crore doses of anti-Covid-19 vaccine have been given in the country so far.
These countries imposed restrictions
Amidst all this, the arrival of a new form of Kovid-19 in South Africa has raised concerns of many countries and they have started taking preventive measures. A committee of the World Health Organization (WHO) has named this new form of corona virus ‘Omicron’ and termed it as a ‘highly contagious worrisome form’.
After the appearance of this new form of corona virus, the European Union along with America, Britain, Canada, Russia and many other countries have banned the movement of people from African countries.
