26 November 2008 … a day that shakes Mumbai. Even today, looking back, thorns appear on the limbs. Today marks the thirteenth anniversary of this attack. However, the memories of this attack are still fresh in the minds of every Mumbaikar. Mumbai was under siege by terrorists. Thrilling, painful, bitter memories of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks are still fresh in the minds of every Mumbaikar and Indian.

The country has witnessed a number of terrorist attacks since independence. The same attacks include the Mumbai terror attacks. November 26, 2008 was a black day for Mumbai. Mumbai was under siege by Pakistani terrorists who came by sea. Even today the wounds of that day are wet in the mind of every Indian. Today marks the 13th anniversary of this event. Today, the whole country is paying tribute to those who were martyred in the terrorist attacks. The 26/11 terrorist attacks killed at least 166 people and injured more than 300 others.

12 years of Mumbai Terror Attack

The effects of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks were felt all over the world. Many foreign women, including Indians, were killed in the attack. The whole world was shaken by the Mumbai attacks. In 2008, ten terrorists from Pakistan entered Mumbai by sea.

 The Lashkar-e-Toiba militants had attacked six places, including the Taj Hotel, known as the pride of Mumbai, in which more than 160 innocent people were killed.

26/11 Anniversary

The terrorists from Pakistan had taken control of Hotel Taj, Nariman House and Hotel Oberoi. He also attacked several famous restaurants. The highest death toll in his indiscriminate firing was at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. 

Terrorists killed 31 people at the Hotel Taj. A taxi was bombed by militants. Rapid Action Force (RPF), Marine Commando and National Security Guard (NSG) commandos were called in to help police. But it took security forces three days to eliminate the militants. The clash between the terrorists and the security forces lasted for about 60 hours.

26/11 Martyrs

Hemant Karkare, Vijay Salaskar, Ashok Kamte and other senior police officers were killed during the attack. Police managed to nab one of the ten terrorists alive. This terrorist is Ajmal Amir Kasab. Tukaram Ombale, regardless of his life, shot Kasab alive and caught him alive. But Tukaram Ombale was martyred. It was because of him that Ajmal Kasab was captured alive and that is why he helped bring out the true face of Pakistan at the international level.

Ajmal Kasab, the only terrorist found alive in the Mumbai attacks, was demanded to be hanged immediately. He confessed to the crime and took part in the attack. Kasab was kept in an egg cell at Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai. Special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam was selected for the case.

Kasab was convicted by a special court in May 2010 and sentenced to death. The case then went to the High Court, the Supreme Court. After the death sentence was upheld there, Kasab appealed to the President for mercy. The President also rejected his application. But there was anger among the citizens as it was too late to execute Kasab. In the first week of November 2012, the Maharashtra government received a file on Kasab’s execution and the state government decided to execute him on November 21.
