‘India needs to deal with the instability in the neighborhood’, said CDS General Bipin Rawat

Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat emphasized that the country needs to ensure that the consequences of instability in its neighbourhood are dealt with. He also said that there is a threat to Jammu and Kashmir as well as the north-eastern region due to the situation in Afghanistan after the Taliban took power in Kabul. General Rawat said that this menace can be dealt with by working on internal monitoring.

Chief Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat has warned that after the Taliban’s occupation of power in Afghanistan, there is a danger in Jammu and Kashmir and North-East as well. However, he also said that this threat can be dealt with through internal surveillance, but there is a need to be vigilant from far and near neighboring gimmicks China and Pakistan.

General Rawat said that India’s national security has come under pressure due to the security scenario emerging from the threats prevailing in the Indian subcontinent. We need to deal with the consequences of instability in our immediate and distant neighbors and this is our immediate priority.

India strengthens ties with Bhutan and Nepal

General Bipin Rawat said that India’s relations with Bhutan and Nepal have always been strong and any issue with these countries has been resolved positively. He said the internal security of the northeastern region is challenging as extremist organizations have bases and links across the border. Their members often use these borders to escape the security forces. However, the CDS said that there has been a decrease in violence in the Northeast region in the last few years. He appreciated the joint efforts of security agencies and civil society to achieve this.

Rohingya refugees may be misused

CDS General Bipin Rawat said at the first Ravikant Singh Memorial Lecture here that the situation of Rohingya refugees in Myanmar and Bangladesh should be closely monitored as there is a danger of Rohingya refugees being misused by radical elements. He said that China’s adverse actions on Myanmar and Bangladesh are also not in India’s national interest, as they are an attempt to “control India”. CDS General Rawat said that there is a universal threat of regional strategic instability. He said that this could threaten India’s territorial integrity and strategic importance.

On Indo-Pak relations, the CDS said that terrorism sponsored by the Imran government of Pakistan and terrorist activities by non-government elements are the biggest obstacles in the peace process between the two countries. He called the partnership between Pakistan and China an “anti-India nexus” on various issues, including China’s supply of military equipment to Pakistan and its support on the international stage.

Border dispute with China is being resolved

The CDS said on the sidelines of the conference that the border dispute with China has to be looked at in a holistic manner and it is not a subject related to the Ladakh sector or the states of the North-East. He said that in 2020 there was some problem (between India and China). Issues are being resolved with talks at various levels, from the military to the political level. He said such issues have arisen between the two neighbors in the past too, but have been resolved.

With the help of neighbors, China will be battered

General Rawat said that there has been a situation of confusion between India and China. That is why the resolution of the border dispute is taking time. People should have faith in the system and the armed forces. He said India has increased engagement with neighboring countries to counter China’s influence in the region.
