The central government has ordered the purchase of 44 crore corona vaccines. Purchases 25 crore CoviShield and 19 crore Covaxin corona vaccines.

Addressing the nation yesterday evening, PM Modi had ordered the purchase of 44 crore corona vaccines as Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that the central government would procure free vaccines for those over 18 years of age and provide them to the states.

VK Paul, a member of Nithi Ayog’s health division, told reporters in Delhi that the central government has placed an order to buy Rs 44 crore worth of vaccines from vaccine manufacturers.

Serum India purchases 25 crore Covshield vaccine.  Similarly, the central government has ordered the purchase of 30 crore doses of the Covaxin vaccine manufactured by Bharat Biotech.

The central government says it expects 30 crore biological-E vaccines to be available by September.  The central government has paid Rs 1,500 crore to buy the vaccine from Biological-E.  The 74 crore dose procured from the three companies will be distributed to the states.

Covshield and covaxin vaccines will be supplied by both companies until the end of December.  According to VK Paul, the central government has already provided 30 per cent of the cost of the vaccine. 

Scientific data on the Biological-E vaccine in the name of cardiovax are promising, he said.  7 companies are involved in the manufacture of the vaccine.  It is noteworthy that Modi said yesterday that three of them are nearing the completion of vaccinations.
