The panel set up by the Supreme Court has filed an interim report in the Supreme Court regarding the oxygen supply.

The supreme court panel said that the oxygen supply to corona treatment was four times higher than required, resulting in 12 states suffering from lack of oxygen.

The spread of the 2nd wave of corona, which started in mid-February, has caused severe shortages of oxygen in various states.

  The Delhi government then raised the alarm that there was a severe shortage of oxygen in Delhi, and appealed to the Supreme Court to obtain oxygen from the Central Government.

In this case, the Supreme Court panel found that the Delhi government had received more oxygen than it needed from the central govt.

The panel set up by the Supreme Court on the supply of oxygen found that during the second wave of Corona, especially between April 25 and May 10, the 1140 metric tonnes of oxygen demanded by the Delhi government was four times higher than its demand. 

Resulting in 12 states suffering from lack of oxygen.

According to the supreme court, the oxygen requirement in Delhi was 289 metric tonnes, according to bedside data.  The panel told the supreme court that this could have affected the oxygen supply to 12 states.

Furthermore, the Petroleum and Oxygen Protection Agency (PESO) has pointed out to the Supreme Court panel that Delhi had more than enough oxygen reserves, which in turn affected the oxygen supply to other states.  It has also been pointed out that this has led to a state of national crisis.

On May 5, at the height of the corona spread, a bench headed by Supreme Court Justice Chandrasooty ordered the maintenance of 700 metric tonnes of oxygen supply to Delhi. 

But then Union Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said a panel of experts had said that Delhi would need a maximum of 415 tonnes of oxygen.

According to the Delhi government, a total of 1140 tonnes of medical oxygen was used in 183 hospitals.  At the same time, according to information received from hospitals, the actual oxygen consumption was only 209 metric tons.
