India successfully test-fires the air-to-air version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile

India on Wednesday successfully test-fired an aerial version of the supersonic cruise missile BrahMos from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur off the coast of Odisha. Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) sources gave this information.

India on Wednesday successfully test-fired an air-to-air version of the supersonic cruise missile Brahmos from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur off the coast of Odisha. Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) sources gave this information. 

The air-to-air version of the missile was test-fired at 10.30 am from a supersonic fighter aircraft Sukhoi 30 MK-I. Secretary, Department of Defense Research and Development and Chairman, DRDO, Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy congratulated all the teams involved in the test.

Describing the mission as a “major milestone” in the development of BrahMos, sources said the air-to-air version of the missile was test-fired at 10.30 am from a supersonic fighter aircraft Sukhoi 30 Mk-I.

BrahMos – Cruise missile

Sources said a pre-planned trajectory was followed and all objectives were met. He said the launch has paved the way for mass production of the BrahMos missiles with the Akash version.

Secretary, Department of Defense Research and Development and Chairman, DRDO, Dr. G. Congratulating all the team involved in the test, Satheesh Reddy said that various laboratories in the premier agency, academic institutions, public sector undertakings and the Indian Air Force (IAF) participated in the testing, production and manufacturing of this complex missile system.

Sources said Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has praised DRDO, Indian Air Force and other stakeholders on the success of the mission.

BrahMos is a joint venture between India (DRDO) and Russia (NPOM) for the development, production and marketing of this supersonic cruise missile. The offensive missile weapon system has been inducted into the armed forces.
