Resident visa holders who have taken two doses of the vaccine in countries including India can return to the UAE from August 5. Permission is granted to those who have taken the UAE approved vaccine. The notification was issued by the UAE Disaster Management Committee. Only those who have completed 14 days after taking the second dose are allowed.
Direct entry of Indians into the UAE has been banned since April 25 in the wake of the continuing strong spread of covid. The new decision comes as a relief to millions of worried Indians. Passengers should carry a PCR test negative certificate taken within 48 hours.
At the same time, some groups are allowed to travel without being vaccinated. Exemptions are available for doctors, nurses, technicians working in the health sector and those working in the education sector (school, college, university).
Exemptions are also available for students, human rights cases, government employees and those in need of treatment. Authorities said they would need to seek permission through the Immigration Department and the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship websites before returning.

The AstraZeneca or Covishield vaccine and the Sputnik v vaccine currently distributed in India are approved by the UAE. At the same time, covaxin, India’s indigenous vaccine, has not been approved by the UAE. Synoform, Oxford AstraZeneca / Covishield, Pfizer / Biotech, Sputnik v and Modena vaccines are approved in the UAE.
