UPSC: University topper and gold medalist Surbhi Gautam cracked UPSC Civil Services in 2016 and secured 50th rank in her first attempt. She hails from Amdara village in Satna district of Madhya Pradesh.he result of Indian Engineering Services (IES)-2013 was declared by UPSC late on Thursday night. In this, Surbhi Gautam of Bhopal has topped the country. This was his first attempt. Surbhi did her BE (Electronics and Communications) from RGPV UIT, Bhopal. She has also been selected for the post of Scientific Officer in Bhabha Atomic Research Center earlier and is working in the same post. Surbhi’s father is an advocate and her mother is a teacher. They live in Satna.

Surbhi, who hails from a small village, was smart in her studies since childhood. Since her school days, Surbhi was the topper in her class. He also scored more than 90 percentile in his class 10 and class 12 board exams. Surbhi also suffered from rheumatic fever in class 12th due to which she used to visit Jabalpur every 15 days with her parents to a doctor 150 km away from the village. Despite all this, Surbhi never allowed her studies to detract from her studies. His father was a lawyer in the civil court and his mother was a teacher.
Soon after the class 12 board exam, Surbhi took the state engineering entrance exam and cracked the exam. He studied engineering in Electronics and Communication from Bhopal. Before appearing for the UPSC exam, Surbhi worked as a scientist in BRRC for a year. He had also cracked exams like GATE, ISRO, SAIL, MPPSC PCS, SSC CGL, Delhi Police and FCI. Not only this, he had secured AIR 1 in the IES exam held in 2013.
Surbhi never took any subject’s tuition. During an interview, Surbhi told to choose a subject in UPSC that you can either choose on the basis of your undergraduate or postgraduate subjects or go for any popular elective subject like sociology, history or geography.
Passed many competitive exams, Surabhi Gautam worked hard and made a record by achieving success in many competitive exams. She had cleared GATE, Delhi Police, FCI, ISRO, SSC CGL and IES exams before UPSC. Despite this, his dream was to become an IAS officer, for which he worked hard. He had good luck and he secured All India Rank 50 in UPSC in his very first attempt.
