Deep Depression in the East Central Bay of Bengal. Yaas turned into a storm yesterday. The cyclone intensified and became a severe storm this morning.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the cyclone will move westwards, crossing the coast between Odisha’s Paradip and West Bengal’s Sagar Islands at noon tomorrow with a gust of 185 kmph.
Also, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for the states of West Bengal and Odisha as the storm turns into a severe storm.
Districts including Kendrapara in Odisha have been receiving heavy rains due to the Yaas storm.
As a precautionary measure, the Indian Air Force sent 950 National Disaster Rescue Force personnel in 15 aircraft to West Bengal and Odisha.
In addition, 16 aircraft, 26 helicopters and 8 ships from the Eastern Naval and Andaman and Nicobar Fleet are on standby for rescue and relief operations.
The storm is named ‘Yaas’ by Oman. Yas is the second storm to come after Hurricane Date this year.

It is noteworthy that several trains were canceled including 22 special trains.
It is expected that there will be large-scale damage in both states as the Yellow Alert has been issued at present.
State governments have already begun rescue efforts. Fishermen must act with caution as it is a high-speed storm.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has lamented that the storm is a major challenge than corona’s struggle against the second wave.
He added that it was the duty of the government to save the lives of all in the disaster.
