Deep Depression in the East Central Bay of Bengal.  Yaas turned into a storm yesterday.  The cyclone intensified and became a severe storm this morning.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the cyclone will move westwards, crossing the coast between Odisha’s Paradip and West Bengal’s Sagar Islands at noon tomorrow with a gust of 185 kmph. 

Also, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for the states of West Bengal and Odisha as the storm turns into a severe storm.

Districts including Kendrapara in Odisha have been receiving heavy rains due to the Yaas storm. 

As a precautionary measure, the Indian Air Force sent 950 National Disaster Rescue Force personnel in 15 aircraft to West Bengal and Odisha. 

In addition, 16 aircraft, 26 helicopters and 8 ships from the Eastern Naval and Andaman and Nicobar Fleet are on standby for rescue and relief operations.

The storm is named ‘Yaas’ by Oman.  Yas is the second storm to come after Hurricane Date this year.

It was also the first storm to form in the Bay of Bengal.  Earlier,

1. Nagercoil – Shalimar special train will run till May 23,

2. Shalimar – Nagercoil special train till May 26,

3. Howrah – Kanyakumari special train till May 24,

4. Howrah – Chennai special train from May 24 to May 26,

5. Chennai – Howrah special train from May.  22 special trains from May 24 to May 26,

6. Shalimar – Thiruvananthapuram to May 25,

7. Ernakulam – Patna from May 24 to May 25,

8. Patna – Ernakulam from May 27 to May 28,

9. Trichy – Howrah from May 25 to Howrah – Trichy May 27. 

It is noteworthy that several trains were canceled including 22 special trains.

It is expected that there will be large-scale damage in both states as the Yellow Alert has been issued at present. 

State governments have already begun rescue efforts.  Fishermen must act with caution as it is a high-speed storm.

CM Naveen Patnaik said Yaas cyclone is a major challenge than corona.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has lamented that the storm is a major challenge than corona’s struggle against the second wave.

He added that it was the duty of the government to save the lives of all in the disaster.

The deep depression in the central eastern Bay of Bengal intensified and turned into a storm on Monday morning.

The storm is expected to intensify between the Paradip Sagar Islands off the West Bengal coast of northern Odisha at noon on Wednesday.

Due to this, it is raining heavily in various parts of the state of Odisha.

The state health department has suspended vaccination and corona tests in Odisha for three days as a precautionary measure against ‘Yaas’ storm.

It is the duty of the state to protect the people. I request the people affected by the storm to stay in the camps set up by the government. The people must cooperate with the government’s action against the storm.
