Olaf Scholz is elected new chancellor of Germany:

Scholz admitted that Germany has close ties with the
US, and Scholz did not explicitly answer questions about whether Germany would support the United States over the boycott of the Winter Olympics in Beijing in February. Scholz acknowledged that Germany has close ties with the US, but said a decision had not yet been made on whether to act on the Olympic issue.
