Papankusha Ekadashi fasting story
According to the legend, there lived a fowler named Krodhan on Vindhyachal mountain. He was very cruel and violent. His whole life was spent in violence, looting, drinking and wrong company. One day suddenly he met sage Angira while doing penance in the forest. He told Angir Rishi that my karma is that of a fowler, so I do not know how many innocent animals and birds have been killed. Please tell me such a remedy, by which all my sins can be erased and salvation can be attained. On his request, Maharishi Angira asked him to observe fast on Papankusha Ekadashi of Ashwin Shukla.
According to Maharishi Angira, that fowler kept the fast of Papankusha Ekadashi. Papankusha Ekadashi fast is observed on the Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month. Fowler ritually worshiped Lord Vishnu on this day and kept a fast. By the grace of Lord Vishnu, she got rid of all the sins. After death, when the eunuch came to take the fowler to Yamlok, he was surprised to see the miracle. Due to the majesty of Papankusha Ekadashi, all the sins of the Fowler were erased. The eunuch had to go to Yamlok empty handed. Fowler went to Baikunth Lok by the grace of Lord Vishnu.
Get up early in the morning and retire from bath etc.
Light a lamp in the temple of the house.
Anoint Lord Vishnu with Ganga water.
Offer flowers and Tulsi Dal to Lord Vishnu.
If possible, keep fast on this day also.
Offer food to God. Keep in mind that only sattvik things are offered to God. Tulsi must be included in the Bhog of Lord Vishnu. It is believed that without Tulsi, Lord Vishnu does not accept the bhog.
Along with Lord Vishnu, worship Goddess Lakshmi on this holy day.
On this day, meditate more and more on God.
