Meanwhile, former Australia spinner Shane Warne has come out in support of opener David Warner, saying that he should not be dropped for the first match against South Africa in the ICC T20 World Cup on 23 October. Australia, who have never won the T20 World Cup despite being one of the strongest teams in the world, are set to play their first match against South Africa in a ‘Super 12’ Group 1 match in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

Warner in poor form for over a year

David Warner has been going through poor form for the last one year. With his IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad, of which he was the captain during the first phase, his team finished last. His form was poor after New Zealand’s Kane Williamson was made captain, he was dropped from the team after playing a few matches in Dubai. The Australian’s poor form continued in the practice matches of the ICC T20, due to which captain Aaron Finch would not want his opening batting to fail in important matches. At the same time, while supporting Warner, Warne has advocated to include him in the team.

Don’t drop Warner out of the team – Warne

Warne told Sen Breakfast on Friday, ‘For me, Davy Warner is a class act. Well, he has had a poor performance for a few days because he didn’t play much of the tournament. So he is a bit out of form. But I think he is the kind of player who performs well on big occasions. It’s a cliché, but they have class. I really think it’s the same with David, I really think he’s very dynamic. Warne said if the 34-year-old hits a few runs on the board, it will boost his confidence and make him one of the players of the tournament.
