Chanu Saikhom Mirabai: Practiced weightlifting with a bamboo bar as there was no iron bar.

Mirabai was born on August 8, 1994 in a small village in Manipur.  Her village was 200 km away from Imphal.  Kunjurani Devi, a female weightlifter from Manipur, was the star at the time and had gone to Athens to play in the Olympics.

Mirabai was born on August 8, 1994 in a small village in Manipur.  Her village was 200 km away from Imphal.  Kunjurani Devi, a female weightlifter from Manipur, was the star at the time and had gone to Athens to play in the Olympics.

Mirabai followed his example and Mirabai, the youngest of six siblings, decided to become a weightlifter.

The Indian hockey team gave a winning opener.  Deepika Kumari and Praveen Jadhav have advanced.  Saurabh Chaudhary is doing well in the qualifying round.

Due to Mirabai’s stubbornness, her parents also had to back down.  When she started practicing in 2007, she practiced with a bamboo bar as there was no iron bar.

Since there was no training center in the village, they had to walk 50-60 km to practice.  The meal consisted of chicken and eggs.  But Mirabai, who was born in a normal family, could not do that either.  But this did not stop Mirabai.

At the age of 11, Mirabai was the under-15 champion and at the age of 17, the junior champion.  The 12-year-old record of Kunjurani, whose dream of becoming a champion was awakened in her mind, was shattered by Mirabai.  Lifting a weight of 192 kg.

The journey was not easy anyway.  Because Mirabai’s parents did not have enough resources.  The situation was such that she would have to leave the game if he did not qualify for the Rio Olympics.

But this time has not come.  Leaving the World Championships, Mirabai had won a silver medal at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics.  In the women’s 49 kg weight category, Mirabai lifted 87 kg in the snatch and 115 kg in the clean and jerk.

This is what happened to Mirabai in 2016.  At the Olympics, Mirabai was the second athlete to have Did Not Finish written in front of her name.

The same weight that Meera used to lift easily while practicing, the same weight that she used to lift in the Olympics, as if her hands were tied.  Since it was night in India at that time, very few Indians saw it.

After waking up in the morning, when sports fans in India read this news, Mirabai became a villain in their eyes.  In 2016, she went into depression and had to seek treatment from a psychiatrist every week.  After this failure, Mirabai once thought that the game should end.  But they did well last year without backing down.

Weighing in at 48 kg, Mirabai won a gold medal at the World Weightlifting Championships last year, lifting 4 times her weight, or 194 kg.  Mirabai became the first Indian woman to set such a record in the last 22 years.

Mirabai did not even eat that day to maintain her weight of 48 kg.  Mirabai had not even gone to her sister’s wedding last year to prepare for the same day.
