Hockey is very popular in Orissa and a large number of spectators can come during these matches. The organizers believe that in such a situation it will be very difficult to follow the Corona guidelines. For this reason spectators have not been allowed to enter the ground.

The  men’s FIH Hockey Junior World Cup will be played here from November 24 in an empty stadium as the organizers feel it will be difficult to enforce the COVID-19 norms if the spectators turn up in large numbers. The prestigious junior level competition will be played from November 24 to December 5 at the Kalinga Stadium here. Host India is the defending champion of the tournament.

According to the organizers, it is necessary to maintain social distancing during the match. Also the safety of players and spectators is the first priority. Hockey India said that the tournament should be organized in such an environment, in which there is no danger to the spectators and players. A total of 16 teams are participating in this tournament. 

The Kalinga Stadium will be open only for accredited people and tournament participants.

These 16 teams will be included in this tournament, apart from defending champion and host India, teams from Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Egypt, France, Germany, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Poland, South Africa, Spain, Netherlands and America will be included. Pool stage matches will be held for five days in this tournament. After this, matches of different categories will be played from November 30 and the quarter-final matches will be held from December 1. The semi-final matches will be played from December 3 and the final match will be played on December 5. 

Foreign teams are exempted from segregation and are required to conduct their own inspection for COVID-19 symptoms during their stay here. They will have to follow the necessary health safety rules related to covid-19. The mandatory health safety rules that the visiting teams will have to follow include RT-PCR COVID-19 test of all the participants before their arrival here which is done within 72 hours of departure. Apart from this, mandatory testing of teams coming from Europe and West Asia is included on arrival at the airport.
