The 14th season of the Indian Premier League ends today, October 15. The final of the 14th season of the IPL will be played between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. With this the competition interrupted by the corona will come to an end. But you know which players in this title match can make this final even more special and make a significant contribution in helping your team win the title. In such a situation, a few hours before the final match, we will learn about 3 players from each team which could prove to be a trump card for Chennai or Kolkata.
MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina have both played in every IPL final Chennai has played so far. However, it is doubtful whether Raina will play in the final this season. If Dhoni doesn’t give Raina a chance in today’s match, then Chennai will be without Raina for the first time in the IPL final.
Big responsibility on ‘these’ 6 players in the final fight
First of all, if we talk about Chennai Super Kings, all eyes will be on openers Ruturaj Gaikwad, Faf du Plessis and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. The form of these three batsmen has helped Chennai to reach the finals and in such a scenario, the trio will once again be responsible for their performance in the title match. Gaikwad, who has scored 603 runs in the tournament so far, has a chance to win the Orange Cap of IPL 2021, while Du Plessis is also in the race with 547 runs. As for Jadeja, he has scored 227 runs in 12 innings and taken 11 wickets.
On the other hand, when it comes to Kolkata Knight Riders, opener Venkatesh Iyer, all-rounder Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy could prove to be game changers for the team. These three players have done their best for KKR throughout the season. In such a scenario, their contribution to winning the title could be significant for KKR’s fleet. Making his IPL debut during the UAE edition, Iyer has scored 320 runs in 9 matches, while Narayan has managed just 60 runs and taken 14 wickets. However, he can be useful for the team at a strategic moment with the bat and ball. Even though Narayan’s bat is calm, everyone knows that he can change the outcome of the match. Chakraborty will be expected to give another match-winning performance to KKR. He has taken 18 wickets in 16 matches so far.
Suresh Raina’s IPL career
Suresh Raina has scored 5,528 runs in 205 IPL matches at an average of 32.52 and a strike rate of 136.73. This includes one century and 39 fifties. Raina has been with Chennai since the inception of the IPL in 2008, but he was in the Gujarat Lions team in 2017 and 2018 after a two-year ban on CSK. Raina withdrew from the IPL in 2020.
Raina’s poor form
Suresh Raina has not been able to perform brilliantly in the IPL this season. In 12 matches, Raina scored 160 runs at an average of 18, including just one half-century. With Raina injured, Dhoni gave Robin Uthappa a chance. In the qualifier-1 match against Delhi, Uthappa chased down the target with 63 off 44 balls to help Chennai reach the final.
Suresh Raina’s injury has now completely healed, so it will be interesting to see if Dhoni will once again give a chance to Raina, who is out of form.
